Are We a Website or a Magazine?
In my previous career life, I was a magazine publisher. I published everything from computer publications, a women’s fashion magazine, a magazine for disaster response, even a Spanish language engineering magazine.
But when I started Amateur Sleuth Central, it was simply a couple of pages on my mystery author website, www.timkarney.com. I was looking to develop content that would attract potential readers of my book. But I quickly realized that I was doing a disservice to the millions of fans of Amateur Sleuth mysteries. It was hidden on my personal website and it had the opportunity to become so much more.
I decided to split those pages off and then continue to add new features, articles, and resources that would serve both the fans of the Amateur Sleuth genre and the authors who write them. Very quickly, www.amateursleuthcentral.com took on a life of its own. I started hearing from readers and authors who were happy to have a platform to find their next favorite mystery book or series. It also enables me to promote other authors wholove to writethis genre.
In answer to the question, what is Amateur Sleuth Cenral, I think it has become an online magazine that is being constantly updated. But I’d like to see it become so much more than I can do on my own.
